Mkasanga sits at the edge of South Luangwa - one of Africa's last great wilderness areas, and one of its most isolated communities. The nearest hospital is six to eight hours away on a good day. During the rains, the roads close entirely. Pregnant mothers travel alone. Children with fevers wait.
Already half-built by the people who need it.
The people of Mkasanga didn't wait for outside help. They started building their own clinic - by hand, with local materials, on the belief that their community deserved basic care. What they need now is for the rest of the world to notice.
House of Navi arrived with a spotlight, not a script. We're walking with Mkasanga for as long as it takes - documenting the build, amplifying the voices behind it, and connecting them to the donors and partners who believe what we believe: that stories come first, and funding follows.
Current phase - Structure complete · Plumbing & electrical underway
The Mkasanga Community Clinic is under construction and nearing completion. Walls are up, the roof is in place, and the building is taking its final form.
Phase One delivers a structurally sound shell - weather-tight, with running water, plumbing, and electricity. Once complete, it will be ready for full fit-out in the phases that follow.
The goal - A fully operational clinic serving South Luangwa permanently
A fully equipped community clinic, painted with the stories of Mkasanga - open to every family in South Luangwa regardless of the season or the road.
Phase Two brings the fit-out: beds, equipment, medical supplies, and the staff to run it. Phase Three is the day it opens. Every contribution brings that day closer.
Getting to healthcare is not a matter of inconvenience. It is a life-or-death calculation made under pressure - in the dark, in the rain, with no vehicle and no bridge.
Even in the dry season, emergency access is near-impossible. There are no paved roads, no ambulance routes, and no infrastructure built for crisis response.
In the dry season, Mfuwe Hospital is hours away over rough roads. Most families have no vehicle and cannot afford transport.
Families who make it find a hospital stretched beyond capacity - limited staff, little equipment, and no guarantee of care.

Women give birth without midwives or emergency obstetric care. Complications manageable in minutes at a clinic take lives in Mkasanga.
Malaria, cholera, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS are constant threats. Without testing and treatment nearby, preventable diseases turn fatal.
Minor injuries and common infections escalate rapidly without nearby care - particularly during the rainy season when the village is cut off.
On the edge of South Luangwa, snake bites and encounters with elephants, hippos, and crocodiles happen regularly. Emergency care does not exist.
